What is the difference between simultaneous and consecutive interpretation?

Simultaneous interpretation is most widely used in conferences and is done with special conference equipment. The interpreter has to listen to the source message and render the target message at the same time of presentation. Wireless receivers and headsets enable the audience to hear the language of their choice.

Consecutive interpretation is usually required in smaller settings. It allows the interpreter to hear two to three sentences before pausing and relaying the target message.

What is telephonic interpretation?

In telephonic interpretation, an interpreter relays the spoken word between speakers of two different languages on telephone. Usually, this service may be included to conduct telephonic surveys by a market research firm or when the interpreter is needed for a short time for booking a medical appointment or talking to a hotel representative for an outbound tour etc.
